As the weather warms up, it’s time to get your jet ski or WaveRunner back on the water. Before you hit the throttle, follow these essential spring prep tips to ensure a smooth, trouble-free ride all season long.

1. Inspect & Charge the Battery

After months of storage, your battery may need a boost. Check for corrosion on the terminals, clean them if necessary, and fully charge the battery before reinstalling it.

2. Change the Oil & Fluids

Old oil and fuel can degrade over time. If you didn’t change the oil before winterizing, now’s the time. Also, check the coolant, and fuel system for leaks or contamination. Replacing your spark plugs before your first ride is always recommended. Spark Plugs can foul out from sitting all winter.

3. Flush & Clean the Engine

Flush the cooling system with fresh water to remove any residual debris or salt. While you're at it, inspect the engine bay for any signs of pests or moisture damage.

4. Check the Fuel System

If you left fuel in the tank over winter, ensure it’s still good. Stale fuel can cause engine issues, so drain and refill it with fresh, ethanol-free fuel if needed. Also, inspect the fuel lines for cracks or leaks.

5. Inspect the Hull & Jet Pump

Give the hull a thorough inspection for cracks, dings, or damage. Also, check the intake grate and impeller for debris or wear. A damaged impeller can severely affect performance.

6. Test the Electronics & Safety Gear

Check that all lights, gauges, and the kill switch function properly. Also, inspect your life jackets, fire extinguisher, and safety lanyard—essential items for a safe ride.

7. Grease & Lubricate Moving Parts

Lubricate the steering, throttle, and any moving linkages to ensure smooth operation. Use marine-grade grease for added protection against water and corrosion.

8. Do a Water Test

Before heading out for a full day, do a test run in calm waters. Listen for unusual noises, check acceleration, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

By taking these steps now, you’ll be ready for a worry-free season of fun on the water. Stay safe and enjoy the ride!
